ICAS research activities focus on areas which allow client organisations to benchmark their people performance and incidence of issues, become involved in new initiatives, and to participate in ICAS interventionist research projects and practical outcomes. Return to Work

ICAS has launched an innovative and practical research programme in an attempt to bring employees back to work more quickly once they have been absent for 2-3 weeks. This pilot programme began in May 2004 and companies have been invited to participate.

Using a combination of early intervention, including experienced Health Professionals and the ICAS helpdesk, it is expected that not only will the employee return to work earlier than might otherwise have been the case, but the organisation's direct cost of absence will be reduced.

The Institute of Work Psychology at the University of Sheffield, a world class academic research unit, will independently evaluate the programme's effectiveness. For further information and to join the programme, please email: research@icasgroup.com

Outcome of Face-to-Face Counselling

ICAS is in the process of introducing the use of the CORE (Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation) system for all face-to-face counselling clients. Once in place, the system will be used on an ongoing basis to gather outcome data from both affiliates and clients on subjective wellbeing, symptoms, risk/harm, life functioning and work functioning pre- and post-intervention by ICAS. Data will be continuously analysed and amassed and will be used to report back to clients on efficacy and outcome in their annual reviews, as well as in a large-scale ICAS outcome study.

International Debt Studies

This series of studies aims to evolve a richer understanding of the characteristics of the debt burdened employee, the psychological dynamics underpinning debt and the factors driving debt among employees, or more particularly, among EAP users. Ultimately, the results will assist companies in predicting risk of indebtedness among employees and would allow ICAS to take a more proactive stance in helping client organisations prevent and more effectively manage the risks associated with debt.

IES/CIPR® Study

A series of Impact of Event scales (n=±200) measuring traumatic avoidance and intrusion have been administered following a range of traumatic incidents, and at various intervals following intervention with CIPR® (Critical Incident Processing and Recovery). The data is currently being coded and will then be analysed. An abstract entitled 'Outcome and Organisational Value of CIPR®' based on these results has been submitted to the EAPA.

Call Centre Shift Work Project

ICAS has recently conducted a study examining the impact of shiftwork on call centre staff in a telecommunications company. A series of focus groups at several sites and a comprehensive questionnaire was administered electronically and in paper format to call centre staff. The sample size and the mass of data collected have been subject to a range of analyses.
